One of the most common motherboard problems on laptops is the power connector.
If you use your laptop as a portable then you will recognise the signs
Wiggling the power connector causes the charging light to come on briefly or only when the connector is wedged at an angle. Sometimes the charge light will not come on no matter what angle the connector is moved to. Sometimes the battery will not charge when the laptop is turned on but charge ok when its off. you may notice a burning smell when the laptop is powered or when charging from the mains another sign is that the power connector is hot when you remove the plug.
In most of these cases it is just the case of removing the main board and replacing the offending power connector if you look online there are dozens of sites that offer simple instructions on how you can replace the power connector yourself but in reality it is a job for us professionals. We can usually replace your power connector within a day and have your laptop on it´s way back to you working and fully tested.
There are other symptoms that could point to other problems for example system overheating, random shut downs, freezing, random device not recognised messages, Blue screen of death, laptop not charging or shuts down or hangs when you move the laptop.
Whatever the problem we can usually identify and replace the defective components and it is still cheaper to repair a motherboard rather than replace it. Motherboard repair usually take around 3 - 4 days depending on availability of replacement parts.
Some motherboards cannot be repaired especially when fluid has been spilt onto your working laptop! If the motherboard cannot be repaired we will quote you for a replacement board.
