Laptop screen produces no graphics

Your laptop boots OK but the screen is black or garbled!

We have started to see a few HP Pavilion dv9000´s (with the nVidia video chip) that are having various screen problems. DV9000 with white lines or strange output, many of the HP range including the DV6000 are the same. It is down to bad solder on the video chip. Even connected to an external monitor the output is garbled or the screen is split into 4.

The problem is caused when the graphic chip on the laptop motherboard gets hot, even with normal use it gets hotter than it should, and the standard solder used in the manufacture of Hewlett-Packard and other brands including Packard bell, Toshiba and many others is often not up to the job and melts away. All the laptops we have seen experiencing half screen or garbled output seem to have the same problem.

Replacing the motherboard is not an option as the cost is usually too high. Throwing away a new looking laptop, usually just out of warranty is pretty frustrating, but now after much research we can now repair most of these boards.

Packard-bell, Toshiba and other brands that have nVidea video chip have all used the same type of solder during the manufacturing process. We can now re-solder (or reflow) your motherboard and bring your dead laptop back to life.

Although we have had great success repairing this problem you should be aware, not all boards with this problem can be repaired. However done correctly this type of repair is a solution for the black screen most laptops with the nVidea chip problem are suffer from. It is also good to note that ATI is also owned by the same company so if you have a laptop with an ATI video problem it could also just need re soldering.

These problems can also be found on Standard PC video cards, XBOX, and PS3´s.
